India for
all official and practical purposes is a Democracy. Indeed the largest
democracy in the world. What make this country more amazing and beautiful are
all its varieties, its unity and diversity quotient and the fact that how it
never stops to flourish and amaze everyone with all its ironies.
Take for
example the better half part of the country- the Women and the girls. A country
with majority of Hindu population with a number of revered female deities in
form of Goddess accumulating significant statures like power, wealth and
knowledge is also a country with highest rate of female feticide.
A woman all
her life is advised to not to talk to strangers yet marrying her off to a
complete stranger seems to be most feasible and socially acceptable norm in
India.
India is a
land of ironies. You will find one at every turn and corner. Let us take a look
at some of the biggest ironies of India:
You have to look both ways to cross a one-way road.
Indian moms want their daughters to 'control' their husbands and
expect their sons to 'control' their wives.
You would never spare a thought to Bribe a Ticket Collector in a
train for a Birth and would take pleasure in discussing the demerits of
Corruption with fellow travelers over a cup of tea.
Let us conclude this with a small incident. A teacher of mine,
who was relocating to Australia said this in his farewell speech:
"A friend of mine once said to me, "you know, the only place you find Indians is abroad." Surprised, I asked him, "what you're saying doesn't make any sense! How is that even possible?" To which, he replied "the moment you're in India, you become a Bengali, or a Punjabi or a Malayalee and so on. Only when you're abroad do you identify yourself as an Indian!"

Yeah, that’s India- the land of ironies.
